SOTV Introduces New Care Ministry

SOTV is launching a new Care Ministry designed to walk alongside people through every season of life. This ministry brings together several caring teams that support those who are hospitalized, homebound, recovering from illness, or simply in need of a helping hand with errands or meals for a short time. It also creates space for personal visits and meaningful conversation—even if that’s just meeting for coffee during a life transition like becoming an empty nester or navigating one of life’s unexpected challenges through prayer. As a new ministry, it will continue to grow and change over time as we learn what works best and respond to the needs of our church family, with one simple goal: making sure no one walks alone. Please visit the SOTV website’s Relational Ministries page or click HERE to learn more or submit a Care Ministry request. If you are interested in serving on a Care Ministry team, please send an email using the link below.

2026 Cancer Companions Bible Study

Cancer can be a deeply personal and often overwhelming journey—and no one should have to walk it alone. Cancer Companions is a caring ministry at Shepherd of the Valley created to support individuals who are currently facing cancer, those who have walked through it in the past, and family members or caregivers who have shared in that journey.

This small, supportive group is led by trained SOTV facilitators and meets virtually over nine sessions, using the study Seeing God in Your Cancer Journey. Together, participants are invited into a safe, compassionate space to share, reflect, listen, and find encouragement along the way.

We are now welcoming participants for our 2026 Cancer Companions study. If you—or someone you love—might find comfort, connection, and hope through this ministry, we invite you to reach out to the church office or the individuals listed below. You do not need to be a member of Shepherd of the Valley to take part—this space is open to all.

You are not alone, and you are welcome here.

Mission-Vision-Values Bible Class Now Available Online

In October 2025, our Adult Bible Class focused on delving deeper into SOTV's mission, vision and values. By exploring these principles together, we aimed to enhance our understanding of what it means to be on this journey as a church family. You can now watch these study sessions and accompanying sermons online to learn more about the values we hold dear at SOTV and how you can embody them in your own lives. You can find the video recordings for this study under the Bible Studies section of our website or by using the link HERE.

Daily Devotion and Prayer Available on Zoom

Have you have been looking for a way to start your day in God’s word?  SOTV offers a daily devotion live on Zoom at 7:30 a.m. which follows the readings from the church year calendar. This devotion is led by Pastor John David Monday -Thursday, and by a member of our congregation on Fridays. If you wake up a bit earlier, you can jump on the Zoom at 7:15 to join others for morning prayer. Please email Pastor John David to request the Zoom link and meeting code. Previous devotions are available to listen to on our SoundCloud page.

Support Our Door 6 Ministry

Our “Door 6” ministry team -- made up of both high school youth and adults volunteers -- provides a free continental breakfast to students from Valley High School who park in our lot. Each Tuesday morning during the school year, VHS students make stopping by Door 6 to snag some breakfast items before heading to school part of their weekly routine. Our team builds relationships with the students by learning their names and activities they’re involved in, then sending them off with a cheerful smile and wishing them the best each week. It’s another way SOTV is practicing growing relationships with those outside our walls!

You can help SOTV continue this practice of our “genuine hospitality” value in one of three ways:

  • Purchase a RaiseRight gift card for HyVee on Sunday morning and donate it to help pay for breakfast items.
  • Donate directly using our online giving link. Select “General” for fund, and be sure to type “Door 6 Ministry” in the memo line.
  • Help out on Tuesday mornings. Contact Angie Spann to sign up.
